Wild Carpathia&GreenImpact in Saschiz – team-working at its best!

4.08.2017. This week our volunteers spent three wonderful days in Saschiz, where they helped build a playground for kids by using wheels and wood as raw material. The construction of the playground was followed by fun games with children from the community, and an amazing barbecue. This was a different kind of volunteering experience for our people, who came back more and more inspired for new, impactful activities.

The volunteers from Heal 2, project dedicated to the promotion of sport activities and a healthy lifestyle, worked in cooperation with GreenImpact Saschiz, to help them build and promote their playground in Brazi. This is a project dedicated to children, youth and adults in the village and beyond, as well as tourists who visit them. Under this project, picnic grills will be arranged in Brazi so not to affect the vegetation.

Daniel, one of our volunteers who helped GreenImpact in these activities, defined his experience in Saschiz “really amazing”. He was really happy helping them, and he even got to improve a little bit his Romanian, by meeting new wonderful people. Daniel enjoyed exploring the citadel, which is beautiful and natural, nothing like touristic sights. As a team they also improved their team-working skills and cooperation. “’Till now it was one of the best experiences here, and of course we are going to join them on 15th August when they start with the activities.’’ He gained a really nice experience in a smaller village than Sighisoara, with no more than 3000 people, having their lunches in the house of the Pentecost priest and dinner in the house of orthodox priest. “Of course I learned to work in the forest with high temperatures, but also to enjoy it when we played with kids there.’’

The local people, who were very generous and open-minded, pleasantly surprised our volunteer Kristiina. She enjoyed playing with the kids and painting wheels; and even though her hair is still covered with red paint, she doesn’t really mind. “I enjoyed spending time with people in the forest, working together as a team and enjoying beautiful days. It reminded me my childhood, when family and neighbours went to work in the forest and didn’t return before the evening. No electronics. Or maybe just a little bit of music.’’ She would enjoy collaborating in the future also, and she wishes for more and more participation. As a piece of personal development, she adds, “From this experience I learned from local volunteers how to become more confident.”

The playground is still under construction, and the involvement of the community is very much appreciated. GreenImpact encourages everyone to volunteer and help in activities that will be amazing for the community. Activities will be ready by August 15th, when they plan to organize an inaugural event with sports games, competitions and … prizes!

In memory of old times, we invite you to come, as many as possible, ready to spend an afternoon in Brazi, with picnic and family or loved ones.
